Lillian didn't have many friends at one point in her life, and zero love life. Feeling abandoned by many people she thought important and reliable (her mother, Matt...), except for her brother Allan (but he left too at the start of GGaR), her emotional attachments went to recurring dream characters she conjured up. 

... it's only at this moment that I realize how interesting it would have been to see Lillian in therapy talking about it all and having a therapist help decipher all this. But I guess it would be interesting for every single character ever to go through therapy to talk about themselves so :D
