Considering GGaR is loosely based in Belgium, mostly because of the beers shown in the comic, it's not impossible to find an open bar or two in the morning and meet people there to drink a beer with.
Every country has their own types of alcoholism. And Belgium is all about beer.
Apparently, back in the days, there were non-alcoholic beers in Belgium you'd drink with your children for lunch, called "Bière de table" (Table Beer).
Not surprising, in France we have the "Champomy", the non-alcoholic version of champagne for kids to drink for their birthdays!
Anyway, back to what Lillian aptly says: do you have to drink to hang out with friends? A question I still ask myself at parties nowadays. To me the answer is clearly no, but the way it's become such a social norm doesn't help those who'd like to question this habit. But I feel more and more people do question it, which I think is great!
