A little subtle thing: in panel one of the 2nd strip, we see Matt reading what looks to be a motorcycle/sport magazine of some sort. That's actually him *hiding* another magazine that he's actually reading (something seemingly not sport related of any sort). AND he's alone waiting for his turn so the fact that he does this even when there's no one watching him, well... explains a lot.
