"He rescued himself", yeah, he extracted himself the uncomfortable situation everyone was putting him in. One of the best ways to rescue oneself!

These sorts of jokes and boundary pushes were definitely something I was living myself back then. It's probable that it was beginning to change when I wrote these strips, that I was beginning to realize some things for myself. For others too, for friends around me that weren't in this sort of 'energy' (let's go with that word) and that I lacked the proper respect for at times. But also for respect for my own self, for my own limits and boundaries.
What you disrespect or dislike within yourself, you tend to do the same towards others.
