Steve is a really good guy, and probably has worked through insecurities of his own to not take that "it's hard enough accepting you're here" personally, like hot damn.

He also must know Evelyne quite well by now, regardless of how much Eve will deny it, and understands that her bitchiness comes from personal insecurities of her own and not coming from actual hate or indifference for others.
