"The biggest of dragons and the prettiest of princesses" sounds so preciously naïve and serves the tale (and character) well.

I haven't mentioned this yet in this rerun, but this "Knight in Furs" tale was heavily inspired by "the Knight in Rusty Armor" by Robert Fisher! It is a very small book, very much worth the read. A profound, and might I say spiritual, fairy tale that has many lessons within. 

In the original tale, the knight's problem isn't turning into a beast, but not being able to get rid of his armor, because he uses it so much and never takes it off that it remains stuck and rusty. 

His quest leads him to Merlin, the classic old and wise one, who helps him out, along with some friendly wood animals. 

is good book.
